A lot of the retro game ads this month have been pretty obnoxious, but none has inspired such deep hatred in me as this ad for the Atari 5200. First, the narrator craps on ColecoVision by showing the atrocious Atari 2600 Pac-Man port that Atari itself was responsible for bungling. (The ColecoVision was 2600-compatible, so that's how it gets away with this one.) Atari, you've got brass ones.

Then, after dinging the ColecoVision repeatedly for its ability to play crappy 2600 games, they unveil a new accessory for the glorious 5200 "Supersystem": a freaking 2600 adapter. Consumers watching at the time must have reacted with a collective "Drop dead." And before long, Atari essentially did just that.
