30 Retro Game Ads in 30 Days: Nintendo's "You Cannot Beat Us" Commercial

You might think that Nintendo's kiss-my-ass attitude these days is a new modus operandi for it. Well, this commercial proves once and for all that Nintendo's had the kiss-my-ass thing down cold since its early days. The refrain "YOU CANNOT BEAT US," uttered without even the slightest whiff of irony or self-awareness, makes it seem as if this spot was conceived, written and produced by Hitler. "This commercial sold negative-one-million Nintendos," John Teti said. We don't have any statistics to back that up -- oh, wait, actually we do. No, no, we don't. Those were the statistics for something else, damn it. It's nice to see ROB again, but why does the commercial refer to him as (if I'm hearing it correctly), "Your robot butler"? Finally: I always knew the dog from Duck Hunt was a dick.
