30 Retro Game Ads in 30 Days: Snatcher
Graphic designers in today's game industry have it tough. The ads they produce have to adhere to strict guidelines, like "making sense" and "having some connection, however tenuous, to the actual freaking game." Things were different in the heady days of the mid-1990s, when creative freedom ruled all. So a designer assigned to the Sega CD game Snatcher could simply scan a picture of the boss' "adorable" nephew, mess with the color, and throw in a few plus signs (DO NOT TRUST THE PLUS SIGNS!) for good measure. Vision: executed. Paycheck: cashed.
