Outlook 2009: Heavy Rain

Gus Mastrapa

Gus Mastrapa: Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer exists for me only in my imagination. I've seen nothing but the scarce video clip. I haven't touched the game, and I can't say I've seen an ounce of gameplay. That may be the sole reason I'm still interested in the game. I'm not one for realism. In fact, I tend to find games that try to replicate reality too exactly to be completely devoid of imagination. I wasn't all that impressed by Indigo Prophecy -- especially when it took that crazy left turn in its third act. There's one case when imagination should have been reeled in a hair.

Scott Jones

Scott Jones: Heavy Rain is a total mystery to me, too. Though we've seen nothing but glimpses of the game here and there, everyone already seems to be jazzed about the game. Prematurely jazzed, in my opinion. This isn't the first time a developer has promised us the world. (Cough, Molyneux, cough. Cough, Dyack, cough.) I'm skeptical but still intrigued. But until further notice, until I get some actual hands-on time, I'm playing it safe and giving Heavy Rain the old stink-eye.

Outlook: We might want to hang with this uncanny valley girl.
