Here at Crispy Gamer, we know that you probably want to share your love of videogames with everybody in your family. So, why not pair up the gifts that you're already getting them with some controller-based fun? Take a gander at our list of pairings below for a few ideas on matching gifts and games. And, if you'd like to find these games under your tree this year, consider our guide a primer for dropping a few hints.
Gift you're hoping to give/get: Microscope
Game that it goes with: Spore
Why they'll taste great together: Peer into the lens of a microscope and you'll discover a new universe teeming with oddly shaped life forms.
Spore, the evolution-based game from Will Wright (the genius behind The Sims) gives you a similar experience without having to swab the inside of your cheek. Fittingly, the first level starts with players controlling a single-celled organism -- so you can consider all that staring at slides as prep for maturing a super-intelligent civilization in this masterpiece.
Gift you're hoping to give/get: Running Shoes
Game that it goes with: Mirror's Edge
Why they'll taste great together: The faster you go, the better you feel. That statement holds true for both treadmill trudgers and winners of Olympic gold. It's also true for
Mirror's Edge, the first-person free-running action game in which players control a nimble courier named Faith. You may not be able to link together jumps, slides and swings in real life as seamlessly as Faith does in the game, but you can lace up the same kind of styling footwear that helps keep her a step ahead of the city's oppressive cops. Just don't try jumping onto a helicopter anytime soon.
Gift you're hoping to give/get: Golf Clubs
Game that it goes with: Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds
Why they'll taste great together: The idea that your uncle will ever get his golf game under 80 is laughable, but a new 9-iron says you love him anyway. If he needs to get a sense of humor about his time on the links, then an introduction to the swingers from
Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, the PlayStation 3's wacky take on the sport, will loosen him up. It might be helpful to remind Uncle Mulligan that celebrating like the characters in the game might get him bounced from the local country club.
