    I'm happy to see a new Ding! when they come. RL is important and more will come when they come. I have dailies and random skipped quests and raiding and dungeons and run-on sentences to keep me busy in the meantime!

    @66rekrul

    I would just like to say that DING! is awesome. Keep up the great work!!!

    I would also like to add that I don't think the web artist needs to explain himself to anyone. Last time I checked web comics were free. And in this economic situation we're all going through ... FREE is a great thing to have!
    I check daily to see if there's a new comic posted and if it's there.. GREAT! If not it's no sweat off my balls.

    The one thing I would suggest to make the page better for the readers would just be to make the forums on a separate link.

    ATARIBOI OUT!

    @Nakota:

    Again well stated...so you are saying that when you promise to deliver it is perfectly okay to say "screw my readers, I don't feel like letting them know the update will be delayed so hang them all." after building up a loyal fanbase? You DO realize that you and scott are not the only webcomic artists out there and that the ones who still HAVE a loyal fanbase may not update on time every time, but they DO let their fans know when they expect the update, or even post a short explanation! Your comment holds as much water as a paper bag with a hole so please try to enter the real world before you speak again.

    @ Pergam
    Once again I can't speak for Scott. I'm not him. The guy updates his comic PvPonline nearly daily and has done so for years a feat which I have yet to achieve.

    But I'd be surprised if anyone here has never said they were going to do something and then failed to follow through. In my case the promise is not empty when I make it. Unforeseen circumstances usually make it that way later on. The logic is that if I publicly commit myself to a thing I will have no choice but to follow through and sometimes (just sometimes) it actually turns out that way. However, far more often it does not and I've got egg on my face. Maybe you are beginning to see the dilemma here? Say nothing and you are negligent. Explain the derailment and you are making excuses. Promise more updates and you are hung in effigy should you fail to for whatever reason. Not until you update again can you offer anything of value to those who are upset with you and when you do, it had better, damn well, be there idea of a good update.

    I'm not saying poor old Scott. I'm just saying there's no need to imagine ill feeling on his part for his readers because of the way he's handling things. There's always a method to these things.

    Yes, but what is the most frustrating of all these experiences is not the fact that the site hasn't been updated. It's not the lack of new material. The most frustrating thing is hearing the artist say again and again "I promise I'm going to pay more attention to this" and then fail to follow through.

    I went back and counted at least five posts by Scott (mostly through PvP) where he talks about Ding and how he wants it to succeed and how it's going to be "better and more consistent and on time... and this time I promise!"

    I'm tired of hearing it. If the strip doesn't get updated, okay. But don't tell me you're going to do something and then fail to follow through. Say what you'll do. Do what you'll say. Is being accountable for what you say you're going to do that difficult? No. It's not. If you can only update the strip every five weeks, then say that!

    ...and I'll see you in five weeks. :)

    @Arras

    On occassions when I've failed to update I've tried to let my readers know its coming or explain after the fact but that's not been true 100% of the time. It's rarely that simple. There is a lot of shame and insecurity involved. A simple note saying I'm not updating now and won't be any time soon can actually be counter productive to getting things back on schedule. It sounds crazy but in my mind, when I get behind, the next update is always around the corner. Even when I look back and realize that over a month or 2 months or 6 months has gone by while I try to round that corner.

    I've also noticed that when I do explain my absence and when I don't has little or no effect on the loads of frustrated emails I get. Those who don't see my explainations as excuses and blast me for it find something else to blast me for. The plain truth is the only thing that's going to satisfy people after a certain point is producing a comic and so sometimes I try to just ignore my inbox until I can focus on that. Besides what could he really say? What reason could he give for lack of updates when there are guys out there who do 2 and 3 comics, update daily and never miss their deadline? I think when you finally do hear from Scott it will be with another update or to say he's giving up the ghost and the comic is over. Anything else ends up feeling like stringing your readers along.

    @Nakota:

    Tell me this, when you have failed to meet your deadlines...did you by chance inform your readers? Perhaps ahead of time if you could or soon after? 'Been feeling really sick the last couple of days and just haven't had the energy to do much of anything' or something to that effect?
    The silence from Scott has been deafening. People here, myself included, will imagine all sorts of outcomes when given no other options. Maybe Scott's seeing how many comments he can build up, maybe he's trying to prove to Crispy gamer he's worth more money and is intentionally holding back to make the outcry louder. We don't know because he hasn't told us anything.

    What have we lost you ask? Time for one thing. Patience for another. Every time I come here and see the same (barely funny) 4 panels, I've pissed away my time. My time is actually important to me and it's important that when I make a choice to spend it on something, I like to see a return on that investment. If I'm going to take my time to come here, I'd like to see an update. A note from Scott.
    But right now, all we've got is rather lame attempts by Failcraft to continue trolling the comments.

    I've only posted here once before to show my support for Scott so I'm not really a part of the community here but please allow me to speak on behalf of the delinquent webcomic artist. I do a strip calle Good Ship Chronicles and if any of you have heard of it then you know immediately that I am well versed in the subject of update delays.

    I just want to say that those of you with anger or frustration toward Scott are misdirecting it. I cannot speak for Scott himself but in my experience it has never been about how I feel about my readers when I fail to update. If i had it in me I'd update every day. If it were completely up to me I'd do it twice a day. But sometimes we bite off more than we can chew. By the time we realize it there are consequence attatched to not choking ourselves to death. How easy it would be to default on his contract, take the hit and wash his hands of the whole mess. But when in Scott's position I've found that the fact is I still want to make something good that people can enjoy. I can never admit to myself that that can't happen and the truth is as long as I don't give up and keep trying (in any capacity) there's still a chance it will. There's still a chance that I'll be able to update like I did before and folks will be happy. I've always held out for that because I care and when I've built up a cache of angry emails and comments I see that as a debt that I will one day pay down. I'm sure Scott cares and if you hang in there he will make it right. I've seen what happens when a creator doesn't care about his work or the people who enjoy it and this is not that situation. I also realize that he's promised more updates but truthfully why wouldn't he? It was a promise made to himself more than anything and as much as he's let you down he's let himself down, no doubt. I'm confident that for this reason he *will* deliver eventually. In the mean time what have you really lost?

    Anger is understandable but we should temper it with patience.

    I think what's going on is that Crispy Gamer likes having a relatively famous webcomic creator on their site and are reluctant to ask him to do anything.

    I think the time when they should have acted was way back september-october time when he started getting lax with the updating. I think the only options they have left are to kick him out or let him walk all over them like they're doing now.

    Oh yeah, also - you play world of warcraft, you're wasting your life. Now failcraft's gone I feel obliged to say it.

    @Grifter:

    There's a problem with your statement about it being HIS comic. When Scott or any other artist put his work online for others to view, enjoy and comment on, it stopped being his. It belongs to everyone now.
    We, as readers, may not have direct input into what goes into the comics, but you better believe we have a right to hold Scott accountable to his own claims. If he expects our support, he (and you) need to recognize that.

    If Scott says - I'm going to make more of an effort to post here, update regularly and be a part of this community, then we (as readers/fans/trolls) have a reasonable expectation that we'll see him around here more. The comics will come more regularly.
    That hasn't happened.

    Scott needs to learn how to under-promise and over-deliver. Right now, he's got it backwards. Can't really even say he's under-delivering, he's not even delivering.

    I don't buy that he's got a lot on his plate. Many, many other web comics artists do far more and participate in the same number (and sometimes more) of conventions than he does and still manage to update when they say they will. Without fail.

    So ehm, can I has comic update yet?
    I mean... the previous comic can't be more than, what, a 20 minute piece?

    Surely if Beamer (Scott, Scotty, beam me up Scotty, Beamer, yeah, haha, I know) skips his daily masturbation session twice there'd be enough time to do another update? Besides, would cut both ways, frustrated artists deliver edgier art.

    Just my 2 cents on an early sunday morning.

    @xscotx:

    Very good point, there may be many other things to worry about in his life...and far be it from any of us to expect him to take a simple 2 seconds out of his schedule and say "Hey, I'm sorry but I can't do what I said I could do, things are hectic" Okay, maybe three seconds. you can defend him, but he stated that we would be getting updates, creating an expectation that was not met. it has nothing to do with the update schedule, it has everything to do with information. a heads up or a schedule Scott can meet such as once a month would be perfect, a "Scott has real life so we must wait like slaves for an entire lifetime just in case he updates because we are too weak-willed to call him on leaving us hanging" is not even a human response...it is the response of a door mat.

    My vote is a level 16-17ish Night Elf Rogue with Defias Mask and his still gimp grey level 7 dagger attempting backstab Kissybear after just getting out of a Deadmines run.

    Still waiting for that death coil.

    Best question I can come up with is, "Why did someone let a lowbie into Northrend and why hasn't he been eaten by a random level 1 critter yet?"

    The level 1 critter part eating a 16-17ish rogue comes from the fact that if your a level 1 hiding out around 67+ mobs you have got to be hiding something to survive.

    Folks, you have to realize that in order to update Ding! Mr. Kurtz would have to do more than just draw and post the comic. He would have to undertake a tremendously wasteful and frustrating time-sink at the expense of his friends, family, hobbies and his freedom in general.

    He would have to play World of Warcraft.

    I've been a fan of Ding! since I first found the link on the pvp page. I like it far better than pvp, in fact.

    I'm disappointed to hear that Scott has made promises about this strip before. This should be a business decision: if it's bringing in money, do it, and if it's not, don't. Meaning, either live up to the business obligation, or terminate it.

    Here's what Ryan Sohmer, writer of TWO successful webcomics, has written about people who claim to produce "professional" webcomics:
    http://www.leasticoulddo.com/comic/20080509 (he challenges a webcomic 'professional' to prove he hasn't been late for one comic update in the last six months.)

    As he says in the next day's strip, "Funny, I don't remember Bill Watterson ever missing a strip because he was drunk."

    I'm not saying Scott is incapacitated, lol. And I'm not saying he's unprofessional - he's produced pvp for a lot of years! (and supplied guest comics when he was unavailable.) I'm assuming he just has a lot of projects on his hands. But if you "commit" to something, managing your time is part of your job.

    Please come back to Ding! - we miss you.

    Scott gets way more hits on this site from people looking for the strip than he would if he actually updated on a regular schedule. Why do twice the work for half the hits when you are receiving the hits anyway. He will update tomorrow, though. It was a long weekend at the convention and I'm worn out.

    I think it was around the.....

    Amaranthine: "If you lot are going to bother twisting your knickers enough to bash on each other (And Scott, who is still a step ahead of you... you know, what with that actual "has talent" thing.), at least put some bloody thought into it."

    So hopefully that clears up what part it was.

    @Amaranthine:

    To sum it up in short: No. If it was something he did as a hobby, sure lack of updates is his prerogative. He pushes himself as a professional to US. If he wants to be considered professional then he better gosh darned act it. A professional web comic artist should mean what it says, PROFESSIONAL Web Comic Artist, not 'will say I'll update and not update' professional web comic artist. In my world a professional that missed that many deadlines would be either laid off or outright fired, regardless of talent.

    So Scott, this one is for you: Update if your going to update or start being realistic with when you are going to update. At least give us supporting consumers the honest truth. Because I've bought your stuff, word of mouth promoted PvP because it was good and generally given you a fair knock at making it break even. That time you were doing this to PvP... you almost lost me. I hung in hopping the slump would end... and I was well rewarded for my waiting (PvP has been as awesome as ever btw, so here is a sneaked in compliment). But don't misinterpret that patience as something that refills. You've used up quite a bit of it already. Don't sink this ship without at least being honest and telling us get off first.

    Anyways, the balls in your corner now Scott. I'm rooting for you, but at a certain point even the faithful fans stop going to empty stadiums.

    I'm not Scott-bashing his updating practices. When the strip is updated, it's amazing work. Funny... poignant. It's good material! What I am Scott-bashing is when he says "I'm sorry, I know I've been neglecting this strip. I promise it will be updated regularly," and then fails to follow through.

    Look at Scott's comments on this very strip:
    "So expect Ding to be on time and for me to be in here more often."

    Is it wrong to expect him to hold to that? If it can't be updated, it can't be updated. I have a problem with being told that its a priority, and hearing that it will be updated regularly only to be disappointed, once again.

    Do what you say you're going to do. Be accountable for what you say. If the strip is only going to be updated once a month, then say that. Don't say this is a priority and then under-deliver.

    It's not the lack of comic people are complaining about. It's the LIES! Scott says that he is going to do another comic, or focus more on Ding, but he doesn't. Yes, he may have a life, but that doesn't mean he gets to throw away all of his commitments.

    Also, I don't know why you assume that every commenter is entirely without talent. Just because we don't sign up to websites, miss countless deadlines and then get praised for it doesn't mean that none of us can draw or write or make music or anything else.

    I would advise that you go back to your hole and sit in it while I swagger around on the internet making myself feel good to make up for my pathetic, lonely life.

    If you lot are going to bother twisting your knickers enough to bash on each other (And Scott, who is still a step ahead of you... you know, what with that actual "has talent" thing.), at least put some bloody thought into it.

    Your half-assed sentences and lackluster insults are tired and fail. The generalizations everyone has already made, the compensation-trolling... it was all very entertaining thirty posts back, but now I think it's time to step it up or get out. I know it makes you feel very important to have all of that negative attention, which in itself is rather sad, but at least make it fun for the rest of us who put up with it.

    Though the fact that you continuously insult yourselves while attempting to insult other people is just bloody brilliant. It's the only reason I bother reading the forum.

    As for the Scott-Bashing... go make your own comic if you've such a problem with his updating habits. When you fail and your fanboys start leaving you exasperating comments, mayhap you'll remove your heads from your asses and realize the man has a life and isn't always going to cater to your addiction when you want him to.

    Scott, you're brilliant, I love the comic whether it's updated or not, the past ones still make me smile plenty. Thank you.

    Scott, I love your work and I support you in as many ways as I can. I have the PvP books. I have a Skull plush. I have the lithograph. I have the Scratch figurine. (yay!) I know that the only way to encourage you in creating your craft is to support it. So I do so willingly. I respect that a lot of it is a labor of love and, for example, when you took PvP from 7 days to 5, I understood. It made sense.

    I have to say though, I'm really getting tired of hearing you say "I'm going to pay more attention to Ding!... and this time I mean it!" You've been saying that for months, but you've never been able to commit to it the way you need to in order for it to get off the ground and have some real traction.

    I sincerely hope you consider what you want for Ding! If it's too much of a commitment, then that's cool... everyone will get over it. It's difficult as a fan to hear you continue to say "really! I care about this strip!" and then neglect it for so long. Seriously. Either do it right, or throw in the towel.

    My two cents.

    What is interesting to me here is that suddenly more are posting about the World of Warcraft "PLAYERS" and not the game itself.

    Each point generally has something about the game's addiction aspects but then changes into a point about how it's the gamers that are the problem.

    My view on this is that world_of_failcraft isn't particularly attacking the game but the players of the game and that that is the exact reason for so many issues.

    It has nothing to do with him attacking the game but he's purposely taunting the players to provoke a reaction just to fuel his ability to say "See it's the players doing this.".

    Now I would rather talk about the fact that I enjoy this comic for it's ability to bring out the nature of a player and not just about the game itself but it seems that it has become a war of the "forums" creating pointless arguments that take away from the comic and turn it into something else... like say oh I don't know, "The Jerry Springer Show." that isn't really about the issues at hand but how much of a fuss can be created around it.

    Really though I doubt "banning" (He can just create a new name) world_of_failcraft will do anything permanent and others are just here for the same reason as him.

    This website is new but forum trolls are not. The fact that there is an area to post beneath these comics means that someone is going to try and subvert the use for their own goals.

    So how about this, we enjoy ourselves, read the comic, read the post, ignore what irritates us, and just talk about the comic.

    If you ignore what irritates you instead of continually attacking it then it generally goes away on it's own or at the very least becomes tolerable to ignorable without your constant attention to it.

    But oh well it seems I must be off to don my hat of "fanboyism" and enjoy some games and read said webcomics as posted above.

    Hopefully this webcomic and the website that host it shall continue on for a very long time.

    At the risk of ticking off a bunch of fanbois, the strip is better when it doesn't really matter all that much what game is involved.

    This could have happened in just about any game that allows PvP combat. The fact that it's Kissybear (a known griefer, based on previous strips) adds to the humor, but only slightly; the real joke is that someone who thought he was All That got taken down a peg.

    On the other hand, I've never played WoW, so the anecdote strips were pretty insipid as far as I was concerned. Particularly the one about the soul shards ... from reading the comments, I guess the "humor" was that some guy who had never used a particular game item had no idea how they worked and may have been confused by the existence of some other item with a similar name. My, how very droll.

    I'm not saying it has to be totally generic, but it's possible to reference the WoW universe without crippling the joke for people who aren't on intimate terms with it (for instance: the strip where Kissybear is using reverse psychology worked for me because I could tell that they were bad suggestions, though my son found it a lot funnier because he's actually seen people doing each of those things).

    Yeah fuck that. Kissybear's character made this particular comic strip. Though true story worked out to be less dry might be ok for another comic strip it still wouldn't compare to kissybear and the rest of the gang. Although on the original day of veiwing this comic this was the first of 2 comics that i saw where a ne rogue was stabbing a ud lock in the back. I loled when i saw the other one on the incompletes site.

    I think it's pretty funny how people are falling over themselves to praise Kurtz and the return of Kissybear like it's the second coming or something. Seriously, folks, relax. Count to 10.

    This strip, sure it's humorous. A funny gag, but "ZOMG soooooooooooo funny lololololl I loved it" it is not. If you truly believe that it is, you're certainly entitled to your opinion and I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong. Only suggesting that maybe you should consider getting out more, reading some other webcomics and removing your face from Kurtz' ass.

    Yes, I'm still glad to see the return of kissybear and I am looking forward to his...unique views on WoW. He reminds me of someone in my guild, so I kind of enjoy the similarities.
    However. Kurtz, if you manage to update more than...let's be generous and say once a month, I will be impressed. If your next update contains more than one panel filled in and more than 3 sentences, I might consider myself a fan again.

    You have an uphill battle ahead of you to regain the fans you've lost. Assuming you actually care.

    Carrion, I don't think I've contradicted myself. I am a fan of Kurtz. While many didn't enjoy his narrative strips I did. I prefer his original stories, though, and am glad he's returned to this format. I understand why some didn't appreciate the narrative format as it was more of a "you had to be there" funny. I just think this format has much more possibilities. As far as being a cheerleader for Kurtz I make no apologies for that. He's received enough criticism (some just and some unjust) to warrant an undying fan who may overlook some minor flaws. Consider me the Fox News of this board. I present the other side. Those who appreciate the work Kurtz puts into this strips despite some unjust and vicious criticism.

    1) This comic was genuinely funny on its own merit. While Kissybear is cool and I'm glad to see him back, the "true story" format could have been laid out pretty much just like this and it would have been fine. There weren't that many people before who were complaining about the lack of Kissybear compared to the number of people who hated the concept of a comic strip that was narrated the whole way through.

    2) I'm surprised and impressed to see Scott's effort here, both because it takes humility to take critical feedback (especially for someone who is on record as having said that critics have nothing to contribute to art), and because Ding! looked so much like a lost cause. Whether or not he was forced into updating, he gets kudos from me.

    3) Signing up on the boards for a reason other than to flame anyone who complains was cool too. I'll choose not to elaborate more on this point.

    4) Newb, you are a total sycophant. Are you a robot that was designed to spit out press releases or something? I mean, you do realize that the things you said in your comments on this page directly contradict the comments you made on the past few pages, right? Seriously, have an original thought once in a while. You make the average citizen of Oceania look like a soul-searching rebel.

    @Malarauko I agree 100%. I am even more of a fan knowing Mr. Kurtz listens to his fans. He could have continued his strip based on actual stories but knew what the fans wanted the old style Ding back. He was busy with PVPAwesomeology (which I encourage every fan buy) but now he's got time to update Ding on his weekly schedule. Looking forward to next week's strip.

But i have to notice that not one person is complaining about the comic being changed back. This leads me to believe that all those people screaming at us did not really have an opinion of their own, but were either toadying up to Mr. Kurtz or were doing nothing but trying to start fights.

    If you really get stuck for ideas, Scott, perhaps you should extend your playing to WAR. Fargo was mining it for ideas in some of his articles - the potential for humour in that grim setting is surprisingly high, even if you don't mention orcs at all. The artwork was created yesterday. The template for the panels was created in 2008 and I forgot to update the copyright at the bottom. Thanks for noticing guys. Heh.

    Ehm, is it just me who noticed the "(c)2008" at the bottom of the comic?

    Because while everyone is standing in line to give Kurtz a sloppy BJ, I am guessing this was just some artwork laying around that finally got posted just for the sake of keeping winers occupied.

    Could be wrong though.

    Getting back to basics is where this comic needed to go. The user stories just were not that interesting. Rather than being constricted to a user adventure this move lets Mr. Kurtz create his own adventures that we can enjoy. This community has overwhelmingly pined for Mr. Kurtz to go back to basics and he has listened. Shows that he really respects and values our opinions and we matter to him. Thank you Mr. Kurtz for listening and for caring about our opinions. I don't know many cartoonists that would show us such respect. And I love the comic.

    Thank goodness! I liked the original storyline just fine. The submitted stories just didn't do anything for me, and the comic previous to this one was pretty incomprehensible.

    How about having a few comics in their COH identities? Been a while since we've seen their Superhero personae (Or maybe you could have skull make a WOW character that he tries to make look like his COH character, despite the fact that it means, say, wearing Cloth armor as a warrior?)

    Jesus! Holy Crap! Various profanity filled exclamations! A new comic and with the old cast no less! And an actual post from the one who made it happen! And don't worry about your best. I for one am just happy that you have listened to our opinions, and have given us some reassurance that you were going to continue this comic. If you had any personal issues that you needed to deal with first, I'm sure we all would have understood (except for the trolls but they complain no matter what) as long as you told us. It is just that when you disappeared, we didn't know what to think. If you ever have to leave again, please let us know and we will wait patiently for your return. Honestly, this strip, as others have said, is worth the wait.

    Thanks for your patience with all this. I'm doing my best (and sometimes my best isn't good enough, I know).

    I don't know if it was dumb luck or what but I just happened to find this thing and not sure how long ago it was posted. O.o Bye bye horde of old comments and hello storyline again.

    Honestly the submit storylines weren't bad they were just "You had to be there" moments that aren't quite as good without you being there to see them. Anyways back to WoW from this. ^.^
