This reminds me of a recent bug where if a priest bubbled a warlock then they would get all the health and mana from there mana drains and if the warlock used there soul drain ability the priest got the shard.

AH yes the every lovable hack Scott has once again fallen behind on deadlines. He couldn't come up with a story line for the PVP WoW characters so he asked us the viewers to send in our stories of WoW and now we once again wait for him to get off his keister and draw something that has been submitted.

Hey STFU just because we don't post here doesn't mean he's lost readers, I check back weekly for any updates. Sure I'm disappointed nothing has happened but for people who obviously hate this comic you sure have a way of ruining someone's comic who you've (at least at one point) respected. Allow some creativity and get your narrow minded commentary off the board.

I think it's fair to say at this point that this comic is dead. Kurtz has had longer periods between comics than this so far, but never when the comic was so unpopular.

He's probably lost pretty much all of his readership by now: he's shown that he is both incapable of making this comic entertaining and incapable of making it consistent, and he hasn't even made the effort to salvage some readers by explaining why.

The only thing keeping this site alive anymore are the comments. I guess that's more of an undeath than anything actually alive, actually. Scott has abandoned this comic; there is no reason to think he's even thinking about maybe, possibly, updating it anymore at this point.

Anyway, to the guy who says this is his story and that it was pre-BC, how did you have a Belf lock before BC came out? Or is that supposed to be a REALLY poorly-drawn troll?

Long-time troll, first time commenter... anyway.

    @DrBaronVonDoesEvilMuch:

Another good example is Howard Tayler of Schlock Mercenary fame. He's getting close to nine years without missing an update, seven days a week. And there's no "I was sick/tired from a con so he's a picture of my cat" fillers like Mookie has stuck in his archives. Howard plans ahead and does comics weeks in advance, so when he's sick/out of town/trired he has a large buffer, unlike many it seems who get to work the night before (looking at you Woody Hearn and J. Jaques, your comics are good but your update time is kinda off).

He also co-hosts a podcast that updates weekly with Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn, Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians, the latest Wheel of Time book) and Dan Wells.

And back to Woody for a sec, I think Woody is where Scott got the idea to do reader-submitted comics, Woody has done comics based ideas (though he doesn't go around asking for them...).

Out of the three examples Baron posted, the only one I'm familiar with is Yahtzee, who is an employee of Escapist Magazine.

Most webcomic authors are their own bosses. They set their own hours. They update if they want, when they want. If you don't like it, feel free to not use the free entertainment product which they create, asking nothing in return, and then pay webservers to host for them so that others can see it.

Look, everyone (Especially the ones defending Kurtz), this is ridiculous. The web comic industry is getting closer and closer towards being respected, and then we get something like this: A respectable artist who gets a comic on a website, and then doesn't update for over a month. No, its not understandable and no, it's not fair to anyone.
There could be an argument made about being under stress, or having too much of a work load. I understand this, so i prepared some examples in the hopes that no one labels me as a troll:

LoadingReadyRun.com has, every week without fail, updated on time for five+ years. These people also edit their movies, post a podcast, maintain a forum, run a store, and have jobs outside of the site.

Dominic-Deegan.com updates on a day to day basis, allowing some time off for a holiday or sickness. When Mookie is late, it is not by more than a margin of a day or two.

Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw of "Zero Punctuation" fame updates, with out fail, every Wednesday, and he makes an entire fucking video.

The point I'm trying to laboriously get to is this: Its not impossible to update more than once a month or, as this comic is slowly moving towards, once in a blue moon. MSF High did that for a while, and readership suffered until they stopped dicking around. So to all of you die-hard Kurtz fans, don't take this lying down! His "Tales from Azeroth" thing is unoriginal and good as a filler, but not as a comic that built itself on Kissybear and his ilk. And to Mr. Kurtz himself: Update or get the Fuck off. Its not fair to us, and if it's honestly this hard then don't trouble yourself. Not trying to be mean, just telling it the way it is.
And to the rest of you: do something about this! The people at Crispy Gamer aren't idiots! Tell them your frustrated and they will do something about this. In the meantime, go check out "Monday Night Crew" and "Non-playable Character". They update more frequently that "Ding!" and are (In my opinion) more entertaining.

So as the first few comments are buried under pages of ... well internet posters...

This took place back pre-BC, meaning that all that nifty functionality like linking items in party chat, Joyia creates a soul shard, and all of that was not in the game.

In addition I would like to point out, this weekend (March 6-8, 2009) I assisted a young warlock who was frantically spamming trade chat wanting to know why there were no soul shards on the auction house and if there was a vendor and where the shard vendor was located. /facepalm

Considering how much Scott posts on pvponline about other webcomics, artists, his D&D games, etc etc, one would think he could make one tiny little post about Ding! It's just very strange

Well when the comic goes from an awsome comic with kissybear and the rest of the gang to bland anecdotes after scott accumulates a large fan base and then he goes back to his usual routine of posting a comic once every month or two then the coments would add up. Honestly I wouldn't mind the once a month or two posting if the comics where in the old format.

I admit I have very little experience with warlocks, but shouldn't it say "XXX creates [Soul Shard]" rather than the usual "XXX recieves loot..."? Because if it does that'd just make his actions even more retarded.

PS: Is it just me or does the warlock look someone from Gorillaz?

@ Chris Cocker-I agree with you. This is from a NYCC fan"it was interesting to see Kurtz at the NYC Comic con. On one side of the square booth/tables, you had the PA guys, and the long lines and huge amounts opf fans. On the opposite side of the booth, his back tot hem, facing the other way, you had Kurtz, alone.

Most times i went by, there was almost no one there but him, or an occasional sigle or 2 fans. That was it. (Maybe there were more at other times, but whenever I went by there throughout the day, which was often because they were in a high traffic spot, he seemed sad and alone. )" and other fans are reporting similar encounters. Maybe his ego is a bit hurt and he needs time to recoup before we get more Ding. Plus Buckley has half the Twitter followers and has been at it a few months versus Scott's well over a year. Cut him some slack.

I think that neither of your options is true. Rather, Scott's busy with a particularly enjoyable run on PVP, and is probably buried under an avalanche of "Wow sucks so bad..." "Blizz sucks so bad..." or "LOLKNIGHTS suck so bad..." stories that he's either having a hard time finding something worth illustrating or has given up entirely.

I'm a forum denizen. I have seen these stories rear their heads from the black morass (heh) of the General Forum, and I would not want to apply my art to them, were I an artist.

You know whats funny that anecdote was actually funny and if done right could be a good comic but only leaving out the explanation text which dries the comic up. At least in this situation. Like the comic could show the lock summoning then asking you ready then the palidin would be like i'm gonna kill you and you take off over the ledge and in his zeal he follows you over and then it shows you summoned back to the lock. But even then the original comic was great.

Scott asked for the funniest story from your experience in WoW. This was an experience I had, yeah 3 years ago, but it was still funny and it still comes up today with friends. We are always making jokes about soul shards and their value.

I have already explained in comments this happened pre the ability to link things like skills in chat, so obviously it is an older story.

The thing with this story is other people's ability to relate to the idiocy of other players. Everyone has had the experience of someone trying to tell them how to play their class or what have you and being so mind-numbingly wrong that you can't help but laugh.

Maybe next he will post the one about me playing a Priest and having to explain to a 70 warlock about soulstones and sacrificing the void walker...

When I was playing at the level I wanted to go to Deadmines I went to Stormwind and naturally shorted it to DM, where I was promptly blasted by dozens of 60 saying DM was Dire Maul and Deadmines, while formerly DM, was now VC after the last boss Van Cleef. I have always said VC since.

On my server it really never changed back but people always talk about it when it comes up (like for the Warlock dreadsteed quest).

    Rats. Pardon the double post.

I really enjoy these strips, even if they don't come out as often as I'd like. That's really a testament to an artist's draw, I think, when even their most vile and bannable detractors' main complaint is that they don't produce enough of their work.

At any rate, just checking in to say to Scott: keep up the good work! I've seen stories like this over on the official forums many times, but not so well told as the comics.

Hope mine makes the cut one day, too, of course!

People used to call Deadmines VC because DM was usually Dire Maul (where no-one really goes nowadays), so DM is back as Deadmines..

Never posted here, but these comments are getting more amusing than the comic, which has seriously slid. Either everyone's sending in bad stories or this is some sort of very early April Fool's Joke "Haha, got you good, all those horrible comics!" If so, I'm not laughing.

Since I think I have a more interesting story than this one, I'm gonna post it and really don't care about the flames I may get.

    Shaman: "I'm cursed."
    Warlock: "Yes, you are."
    Shaman: "Well?"
    Warlock: "Well what?"
Shaman: "Aren't you going to do something about it?"
    Warlock: "Err, like what?"
Shaman: "Cure it, you're a warlock."
Warlock: "Dude, the only thing I cure is LIFE."

(Yeah, the shaman honestly believed I could cure curses. I made a good friend with the rogue in the group as we kept laughing about it. Strangely, it was also SM. What is with that place and stupidity?)

Oh, hey, Mr. Moore, while you're here...what do you folks at Crispy Gamer think about Kurtz' update schedule? All the other comics seem to update on a fairly consistent basis, yet Kurtz is all over the map. Though, whether he updates or not he seems to generate a fair amount of traffic, so maybe it evens out.
Just curious what your thoughts on it are

    An Open Letter to world_of_failcraft:

I attempted to send this to your personal e-mail and received no reply. Seeing as you are a troll, the e-mail you registered with is most likely a fake.

My name is Evan Moore, I 'm the Product Development Manager at Crispy Gamer and also serve as the community manager/moderator for our community and comments. When you first started to post on our comments we were honored, we've only been around for a year or so and its an important moment in a young site's life when it gets its first comment troll. That said, enough other regular users have vehemently complained regarding your posts and actions that we've decided that we need to take action. But we're not going to just outright ban you without any due process, we'd like to give you a chance to defend yourself in an article on the site.

So, if you are so inclined, please take some time and tell us about who you are, where you're from, why you troll...why you think anybody trolls? Whatever you respond with, we'll publish on our site edited only for profanities so that you can say exactly what you want to say. At the end of the article we'll post a poll asking our users to tell us what we should do with you, and whatever they decide we will do.

If you decide you'd like to take me up on the offer, e-mail me at evan.moore@crispygamer.com.

    Thanks,

What will be really interesting to see is how many more hits this page generates even when we don't see an update. Keep posting, everyone! Support Kurtz' lifestyle of leeching off of ad banners! I know I'm a little late for ths....However...are you kidding? have you ever drawn a comic by hand? No? How about by computer? No agian? Then I wouldn't talk about things you don't understand. My Style is Simplistic really. But to put everything into the Boxes make it look neat and still be humorous without over exerting teh punchline or characters being used my Simplistic style four panel hand drawn web comci can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. Now Scott's style while it looks Simplistic is not overly difficult but it isn't something jsut anyone can draw. it really isn't. Go ahead take out your pen and Draw me Skrull from PVP ...No really go ahead I'll wait.... Now i don't mean a crappy rendition I mean I want line for line exactness. I don't want a single fraction of a line out of place...go ahead do it please I ask.. Can't do it can you? asshat... Scott style is not jsut done on paper but mostly with a comptuer. and that takes time...loads of time it's far easiter to hand draw and scan it. though the quality isn't nearly as nice. Not only does Scott Draw thesehe colors them useing the computer...and in the Case of PVP he shades... He fucking shades ... So seriously get off your high horse. if you don't like what Scott ahs to offer draw your own shit.

So let me get this straight, you are all complaining because he doesn't update enough? The man has a life and a family... I'm completely content with looking for a new comic everyday because I like his stuff. It takes all of half a second to click on my tab to this website, about a second to see if it is new or not, then half a second to move on to the next comic I want to check out.

So stop complaining about a free web-comic that you get to enjoy x-times a month and may happen to waste a WHOLE TWO SECONDS of your day trying to enjoy the possibility of a new strip. Thanks Scott for making me laugh on a regular basis, and please know that I'd still check your comics every day even if you only updated once a month.

    @CaptainTact:
Truth is that just by visiting this site, we are all paying with our time, attention span, and bandwith. Such sites have dozens of banners everywhere, that, although not as profitable as they once were, they are still a good income in a site with a steady readership. Personally speaking, this comic alone (and I mean this exact one I'm commenting on about shards) already made me visit this site 4 or 5 times (looking for updates). That's 4 or 5 hits in each of the banners. Not only that, but keeping fans happy, and extending the readership brings other bonuses. More happy people mean more potential clients when they decide to make an action figure, or a t-shirt, etc. Because the trick is having alot of potential clients. Most people won't care enough to buy something just to "support". But we might eventually find something that clicks with us. In my case for example, when I saw the black mantle penny arcade hoodie I just loved it, even with no intentions of ever supporting their gold thrones, by keeping me as an happy reader, and returning on a regular basis, eventually they just casually showed something (the hoodie) and they converted me into a costumer. If for some reason I got tired of visiting their website (let's say for lack of updates like VGCats, or simply because we have to pay to comment the strips like PVPOnline), I would cease to be a potential client as well...

Not really giving reason to anyone here. The day I stop caring, is the day I stop reading a webcomic, if I'm here is because I still have some interest (and because unlike PVPOnline site, here we don't have to pay a membership to comment eheh) =)

    Scott,

Don't listen to these asshats. 99% of the people complaining about you not updating on a regular basis are the same asshats that don't contribute a dime to your continued existence and support. It's sad to see how "entitled" people feel they are. They're accessing an source of entertainment that is provided to them free of charge, and then whining when it doesn't get updated every day. Feh...what a bunch of losers.

I love your work. I have been a fan for quite some time now and thoroughly enjoy all your strips. If you were only updating your strips once every two weeks, I would still come back every day, just to enjoy your immense talent.

Don't let any of these no-talent hacks with delusions of grandeur get to you. Those are the kind of fans you don't need anyway. The rest of us are aware of how many irons you have in the fire and applaud you for working so hard at a job you enjoy so much, in order to keep from having to work in a corporate cubicle for the rest of your life...like the rest of us.

    Love your work...keep it up!

I'm an artist myself, and let me tell you, it's time consuming. Just because something LOOKS simplistic style-wise, doesn't mean it's easy to draw. I know this for a FACT. Plus you have to actually plan what happens and if it doesn't work, scrap it and start over. It's not as easy as some would think it is.

Ever draw something under a deadline that you try your best to stay within? Not exactly easy, I can say that from personal experience. Now do two of them at once under a deadline. You're starting to put a lot on that plate there.

Would it be nice to know why he's not updating? Sure. Would it be awsome if he went back to Kissybear and the panda attack gang? Absolutely. Will I hold it against him if he takes the comic somewhere I don't like? Not so much. It's pretty easy to delete a bookmark and find another webcomic to follow. :]

Arguments like Chiitaku's and Warcrack4kids' don't make any kind of sense. Comics aren't exactly the most intense job I can imagine; doing two at a time doesn't change that. For comics like these, I don't see each one taking more than about 4 hours, less with this particular artist's personal style (using submitted plots for this comic and using large story arcs for the other). That means, one new comic for each series up every day would only be 8 hours a day, max. This is really not an unusual length for a work day.

Don't get me wrong, I really like PVP and I (used to) like Ding!; I'm not criticizing the artist for anything. I'm just saying think about it before you fly to his defense with stupid arguments. And no, I've never done a webcomic, but I'd bet money that a vast majority of those who have couldn't do my job either.

I haven't made a webcomic, no. And I think it's great that he's been doing so well with PvP. But with making a webcomic comes an expectation that you'll either follow through, regardless of how many you choose to make, or say something about why you can't. Scott hasn't told us why there have been such long delays. If it's little things in life, tell us and we'll sympathize. If it's too much work, say so and we'll get off your case. I don't mind not knowing when it'll update so much as why it won't, and I guarantee that people wouldn't be quite so rude about their complaints if Scott came out and said something.

Ack. Screwed up on my first post. Sorry about that, but I come to make a point. Have any of you people, who are whining about the timely updates of the comic, ever made a webcomic yourselves? Have you ever had to perhaps put your fans on hold for a little while to handle things in your life?

Warcrack4kids has a good point. PvP is updating, and it's on time. However, if your biggest gripe in life is that one of your favorite comics hasn't updated then you need to do a priority check. IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL. So get over it.

By the way, Mr. Kurtz (should you pop in here), keep up the awesome work. I look forward to seeing what comics you post in the future.

I'm not here to show anyone up. I'm just here to restate the obvious: it isn't new, it isn't funny, and it isn't on time. The content of the comic doesn't matter so much as having a comic in the first place. We've gotten three comics in with this new setup, and if I'm not mistaken, it's been over a month. Before quality comes quantity. If you made the deadline--heck, if you make ANY deadline for Ding!, and then stick to it--half of the complaints would go away. I'd rather see some mediocre comics on schedule and a few gems every once in a while than three mediocre comics spread out over several weeks and the first truly funny one a month later. Honestly, if you can't make the deadline, just drop the comic. I'd rather you have better quality work and fewer comics to manage than Ding! being all over the place and a capable artist taking flak from his fans for his inability to meet a reasonable standard of updates (for any reason).

Perhaps I didn't see, but did anyone think to ask why Scott is so slow with Ding! updates?

One of them says are you deaf or mute or what ever. Then you realize the mute was on relay that to the group and then everyone types lol. God i'm looking forward to that. Just like aids.

    @ZenKai:

I'd like to point out some things I recently read to everyone, and give a bit of insight into why they made me laugh.

"Okay... I'm not going to get involved with this whine-fest."

-Yeah, good job with that. I think you kind of lost your resolve when you clicked "Add Your Comment".

"Scott, this pseudo Reader's Digest (Raider's Digest?)..."

-Ouch. That kinda killed me a little inside. And here I thought you were trying to keep this on the intellectual side.

"The two of you are so clearly infantile in your comments that they *hurt to read*."

-Perhaps easier to read than someone too pretentious to realize he is only contributing to the problem?

"...[your] utter lack of social insight [is] not belied by your attempts to sound adult..." "...bewilderingly unamusing."

-Trying WAY too hard to sound older than your so-called 10-year-olds. Do you even know what you're talking about? I have a hard time looking over the fact that you've used a made-up word to criticize someone you consider to be a bad writer.

"I'm not attempting to start a flame war..."

-Another classic. I suppose you meant you really just don't want anyone to find a flaw in your "logic".

    "...the internet as a collective..."

    -WHAT?

In conclusion, I'd like to point out that there are just as many people using the internet trying to act smarter than everyone else as there are people who don't care that they're not. Please, everyone, don't be either one. Thank you, and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Okay... I'm not going to get involved with this whine-fest. I'll state my opinion, and leave that part of it there: Scott, this pseudo Reader's Digest (Raider's Digest?) format is simply not entertaining. It's like seeing an illustrated rendition of someone's clumsily-described dream. It's a mess.

That said, the real reason I'm posting is for two reasons: MylesMan88 and Newb. The two of you are so clearly infantile in your comments that they *hurt to read*.

MylesMan88, I'm not saying you fail because you misspelled a word. I'm saying you fail because you misspelled many, many words, ignored every convention of punctuation and grammar, and ramble like an ADHD schizophrenic with Tourette's.

Newb, you write like a 10 year-old. Your phrasing, comments, and utter lack of social insight are not belied by your attempts to sound adult, but thank you for at least making the effort not to sound like MylesMan88. Hint: the stories you're so formally granting permission for are bewilderingly unamusing. Please, please stop.

I'm not attempting to start a flame war, nor am I resorting to an ad hominim attack here. I'm not attacking their arguments. I just keep hoping that if the internet as a collective makes it clear that when you sound like an 8 year-old moron you will not get respect or the ear of an audience, they might, MIGHT shape up or ship out (I know, I know: lotsa luck, right?).

Hey look, it's been two full weeks since Scott's posted a comic. I'm shocked.

Though, at least PvP is looking better and getting updated fairly regularly.

Still, you'd think, if he doesn't even have to write the story...and, he's using anecdotes that are, at best, three years old...well, it oughtta come easier than this. Maybe next it'll be something about, what a tank getting a good weapon drop, only to wipe the party because he never skilled that weapon type up? Or, a pally tank bubbling and wiping the party instead of waiting for a heal? Maybe something about ninja looting? Or pulling trash mobs in a raid because some idiot had to mine some ore?

Ooh! Ooh! Here's one that's never EVER gotten old and tired: this guy who ran into a room full of dragon whelps and wiped the party despite their careful planning. What was his name again? it's so hard to remember. Oh that one never gets old, I can't hear about it too much. Please, someone tell me about that one again.

    Anyway...

Regardless - either update the comic, or take it down. Or post something that says "updated bi-monthly" so that we can at least stop pretending to check the page even once a week. They get paid with every hit...but there's nothing here to see.

And just when we were starting to have a rather normal conversation about the mechanics of the game. *Sigh* If this is really what everyone wants, I guess i will jump on the bandwagon.

I find these latest comics quite unfunny. I prefer a longer story with character development. I am not saying that either comic is better or worse than the other, I am just stating a personal preference and think they should be separate so that we can read either one depending on our mood.

    1) Of these past three Ding!'s, the one about the guy on follow and this one were pretty good. I actually fell out of my chair reading this one. The one about drop rates wasn't so hot, though.

2)Constructive criticism is ok, badgering is not.

3)world_of_failcraft, your comments on Thursday and Friday are possibly the most annoying comments I've ever seen on here.

4)I miss Kissybear and Panda Attack too, but these are pretty good and I hope Scott is using the time to advance the plot in his notes so he can update more often when he *does* get back to PA.

5)Yes, Mongo, my epeen *is* bigger, if by epeen you are referring to my ability to make fun of world_of_failcraft without actually posting it.

6)I apologize in advance for feeding the trolls.

What I really love is when I come across a Horde who is obviously losing his fight with the mobs and I help him out and then he chases me down and attempts to gank me.

Kurtz is back BIG TIME and you haters can't handle it. This is the best work Scott's done in ages. Some of the crispest writing since his early days on PvP. Scott, don't listen to the critics. You know what they say "those who can do and those who can't complain." Scott is the best talent in webcomics today. Blows all other comics away and Ding is on the verge of being the best fantasy based comic in the history of fantasy based comics.
More Ding please. I will try to think of funny stories to share so you can illustrate. Like one time I was playing and I hade mute on and my guild said "hey, are you deaf or mute?" We all laughed out loud. This would be a great comic for you Scott and I give you permission to use it.

sadly enough about 80% of warriors i've grouped with are retarded. the other 20% were the best players i've grouped with. so warriors in general can't be put into a group of people who you hate,i've grouped with a warrior who acts like the warrior on here, he was getting angry about me having to ignore healing due to the lack of mana,so as soon as i rez him he starts insulting me,and after the next 2 mobs i left. i don't regret doing it. i regret not having done it sooner.

On another note this is why I object to the fact that items created through spells and abilities like Soul Drain are advertised in the chat channels.

My teammates don't need the spam and it only creates confusion when there's someone who's never played a Warlock in the party.

All they want to know concerning Soul Shards is that I have enough to keep the supply of Healthstones and Soulstones coming.

I'm sure no one will take this into consideration, but aren't we taking this a bit far? I mean, just because someone doesn't like this comic's new style, or its old style, or WoW in general doesn't mean they're wrong. If someone wants to spend their time reading comics they don't like and posting comments to it, that's their business. The way I see it, that just means fewer people spamming in the trade channel. :)

On the other hand, if you do like the comic, great. I know I do, and I'd be fine if it stayed the way it is. So why waste time arguing with people about how great it is? I come to this site for a laugh, and that's how it will stay.

If someone's opinion differs from your own, there is little you can do to change it. Why worry about it? People will never stop giving their two cents in the first place, so there's no use encouraging it.

Thanks for the good comic, Scott.

Zyzygy...I'm humbled. While I think World of Warcraft itself is lame, I mean let's face it. It's just another MMO. I too love this comic. I thought PVP is also lame but Ding always made me laugh. Then these player stories...These god awful unfunny stories, came in. It's boring. For the love of god I play tabletop roleplaying games, such as D&D, and even I think these stories are lame. And sadly I'm comparing them to Orc Porn found in a Dwarfs closet. So yeah. But back to my point. You're right Zyzygy. Like you I keep coming back and speaking out hoping Scott will listen. I'm pretty sure we won't be heard but hey that's just the way it goes. Anyways... Folks. You know why I love the net? Because here we have freedom of speech. I can bash his work if I don't like it. The sad truth is that I keep coming back because I CARE. I LIKE Scott's WORK. I appreciate what he has DONE. But the new format isn't working. SO should I just stop coming back? According to you other "fans" out there I should just GTFO. But that would be like abandoning a ship not because it is sinking, but because it has turned in a direction I don't want to go. I MIGHT be able to impact a new direction if I speak up to the captain... but I won't if I just jump off ship.
Many of the BEST things about WoW started off as complaints from players. I remember starting a whole group (at least 3 guilds worth of players) in a campaign to give us a special slot for keys, because they took up SO much back space, and Blizzard eventually made the Keyrings.
TRUTH: Scott is a talented and funny guy who has probably bitten off more than he can chew time constraint-wise.
TRUTH: Ding was funnier when it was about the CHARACTERS.
TRUTH: If everyone who believes the first two statements just ABANDONS reading Ding!, then Scott will have driven away not just fans, but potential clients and buyers. I know I have purchased PvP collections. I would love a Ding! collection for my shelf, but not if its going to be these WoW anecdotes. I can hear plenty of those in game.

SO- I'm not going anywhere.. YET. I WILL keep complaining about the lack of funny and the lack of story quality, because it's just not there.
I want Scott's work back. And GTFO won't make that happen. Maybe staying and complaining won't EITHER, but at least I will have done my DUTY as a FAN and made my opinions known. Sorry if that irks some of you folks who still think this "work" is teh bombzz...

To me, it seems pretty petty to start targeting my point by assessing how I speak (and also I find it interesting how you can possibly infer that I never go outside from the fact I spent 2 minutes writing a reply to a point that you made).

If you don't want someone disagreeing with you, don't post. And when they do, try to answer their point in a mature and constructive manner because right now you simply come across as an idiot.

Like he shot my dog? Dude. I'm merely putting across what I feel is constructive criticism from a neutral standpoint. Nor do I imply any kind of personal friendship...? Stop getting your panties in a twist about the fact that someone disagrees with you.

I would like to reiterate - I like the strip Ding!, but not the recent strips. I also posted why in as concise a manner as I can. If you have something further to add to my point either for or against feel free to do so. But attacking me personally isn't going to negate what I've said.

When you start to use the words "drivel" and "whilst" to describe your thoughts about an online comic is really time to go outside. No, it doesn't make you look intelligent. No, it doesn't make you anymore credible. No, it wont help you pick up women. Its an online comic. Let it go. Yes, you can leave your comments and im sure he enjoys reading them, but you make it sound like he shot your dog. He is not gonna read your comment and suddenly go "He said "Whilst!", "He must really know about WOW and comics!".

Take it for what it is. Yeah I prefer normal Ding! But its not like this is a bad substitute or anything. Stop making it sound like you've known him from birth. Its creepy.

seriously, to all the nay-sayers out there.

There are other web comics you can read. Personally I find Scotts work great. Sure, its something that i'm sure has happened to you in game and is "old" to you, but thats kinda the point of it. He is illustrating stories that have ACTUALLY HAPPENED, thus they wont be as outrageous as the more fictional stories.

Personally I have been following Ding! since it's origial EverQuest version, and I'm not dissapointed by the modern version one bit.

Whilst I do agree that a lot of these comments are entirely unhelpful trolling, I strongly disagree with this fanboy drivel of 'if you don't like the comic, don't read it'.

The only way for an artist to grow and mature is to accept critique of his work, and look at possibilities to expand and develop. If he just surrounds himself with baying morons who do nothing but pat him on the back, all he's doing is drifting into B^Uckley territory.

It's not that people just don't like this comic. It's that people do love Ding!, but are disappointed with this new direction (like I am). Should I not be allowed to post any critical comments? and just go away disappointed if I don't like the strip?

I'd like to think if I were an artist and my fanbase had started to turn away from my work, I'd want to listen to why they feel that way, and take all information on board.

I like that Scott is trying something new with Ding! with this narrative story structure. But I don't like it - I don't think it is playing to his strengths, and all that is coming out is boring anecdotes with no real punchline.

The last 3 Ding! strips have been the worst yet, and I feel the best way to improve the strip is to move back to his old method of storytelling.

The People that keep coming on here a posting Comments Like:
"sure..I could just ditch Ding! and PvP, but...well, I see potential in both of them. Kurtz has done good work in the past, so it's particularly irritating when he shoves drivel like this out. I *know* he can do better because he has done better.

I come back and keep looking because I have a small glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe he'll go back to Ding! as it originally started and the originality, the funny will return.

Oh and I also come by here because the comments are still way more interesting than the comic itself."

    Or

"So are people all sending their stories in the same cookie-cutter, banal format or has Kurtz given up trying to present even a facade of storytelling ability? I used to enjoy Ding! but there really are better ways to write a comic than copious narrative text boxes all using the same voice. Sure most of these jokes are tired (though this one still has potential) but they could all be enjoyable with decent pacing and a few tweaks."

Seriously, stop reading this comic. Please. Dont act like Scott is your best friend and your "Disappointed" in him. And making yourself sound high and mighty doesn't help ether. Its not like after reading this your day is ruined. You click the next link and forget all about it. He provides a service to you. If you enjoy it, then you'll come back. If not, you wont. Keep the negativity out of it and enjoy it just for what it is, a comic.

The one I don't get is why all of the food in WoW is made from God-awful ingredients. Spiders, and wolf meat, lizard, and slime. And all hostile too.

I mean, we KNOW there are rabbits, deer, cows, fish, birds. You see these critters all over the place. They die easy.

It's like Azeroth's cuisine policy is, "If it can't eat you back, it's not dinner."

Before some putz goes into how they use harder baddies to draw corollaries to ones level and difficulty rating: I know. I'm just saying that in a game with such slick story-telling, they missed the mark on this one.

I'd have to disagree with nomadRED. I play a rogue and the whole group helps you get to said chest then everyone should have equal dibs. What ever is in the chest isn't that big of a deal anyways. I mean the locks spread their health stones out and mages and other classes buff people. If they made you roll to see who got buffs and hs they'd probably get kicked.

And the way you handle the warrior is you tell him he's retarded and if he doesn't believe you to look what ever it is you picked up on thottbot or wowhead.

I agree with Joyia on this, having encountered players like the ones portrayed in the comic. It gets especially bad, when you're a rogue or can blacksmith skeleton keys and someone feels that if you pickpocket/pick-lock something noteworthy it should be rolled on.

Honestly SM pugs are the worst.

On my shadow spec priest, I got booted from the group for "wasting the healer's mana." Here's how I accomplished that dastardly deed.

I used Vampiric Embrace. The up to 100hp that I healed every group was apparently enough to make the healer's heals wasted, so I was promptly booted and put on ignore.

This comic used to be good, and now Scott is just letting it turn into piss. The fans of his that aren't 12 year olds want the old cast back, when the comic was funny and not just about lame overused jokes from 2 years ago.

I submitted this the very first day about 10 minutes after I saw the post on PVPOnline. This story was edited a bit from what I sent in, I am assuming for length. I did try to explain, even going so far as to try to hand him a soul shard and having it in the will not be traded slot. He was having none of it and assumed I was trying to trick him. I thought he was joking around, and even loled at him a few times.

To be fair, it did happen like 2 years ago, but it was still funny, and I still laugh about it when we all start telling our funny WoW stories. I always say "I swear by the Sunwell" because I play a ton of Blood Elves and of course people always think I am making it up, but I honestly didn't think anyone could be this oblivious to other classes.

so..are people sending him stories or is Scott just trolling the WoW general forums for ideas?

As a warlock, I've encountered this...people get [Soul Shard] and [Dream Shard] or any other kind of shard mixed up quite easily. Takes about 30 seconds to explain and link the difference.

if these little anecdotes were actually funny and recent, I might be a little more forgiving. But seriously...a joke about auto-follow, then one about lousy drop rates and now one about a retard thinking another retard has scammed him out of his precious shards? Really?
I can't wait to see what comes next. I'm thinking how expensive epic flying is. Or maybe someone forgetting their mounts are spells and trying to buy news ones but can't use them.
