Jason McMaster: I'll be attending a good friend's wedding on Bald Head Island, North Carolina over the weekend, and with my attendance comes my PS3. I know, I'll be on an island and I'm surrounding myself with games. I had to stop myself from going out and buying
Uncharted 2 after Mr. Jones assured me it's worth the purchase. In my defense, though, it's supposed to rain a good bit of the time I'm there. I've also packed my clubs so that maybe, just maybe, I can fit in 18 or 36 while the weather's still warm enough.
William Abner: My launch 360 finally died. The old warhorse ... it started to get loud and obnoxious, and refused to play with others. It died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. My new Elite is quiet, unassuming and lacks the old girl's feisty personality.
I will be playing
Galaxy Trucker this weekend and reading the rules for
Republic of Rome. Thanks Troy. And hopefully
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, once Konami stops hating me.
Russ Fischer: I'll be playing one of modern society's most refined games: How Do I Get All This Crap I Own Into That Little Truck and Over to the New House? Luckily, the version I have is multiplayer. No upper limit on participants, which is a theoretical networking coup, but I think it'll only be a four-player game.
It's going to be so awesome that I expect to be playing from midday Friday until I collapse on Sunday. So that's pretty much that.
David Thomas: Grabbed
Cities XL off Steam. So, it's time to start mayoring.
In some sense, I never did grow as a gamer past
SimCity. I just got more jaded. Here's to hoping for a breath of fresh Sim air.
Chris Buecheler: I've been playing
Shadow Complex. It's definitely a fun little game. Frustrating at times due mainly to controls (and the occasional room where they drop 900 bad guys on you at once), but not overwhelmingly difficult. The comparisons to
Super Metroid are certainly appropriate, although it lacks the wonderful kind of forlorn, abandoned-and-alone feeling that
Metroid and
Super Metroid do so well (I think it's partly the music in those games that makes them so atmospheric). I suspect I'll beat it by this weekend, at which time I have some hard choices on my hands: do I buy
Batman, which I still haven't played? Do I pick up
Brütal Legend, even though the actual gameplay part of it doesn't sound like my cup of tea? Or do I grab
NBA 2K10 and immerse myself in the association mode?
Decisions, decisions!
Harold Goldberg: I'll be going up to the mountains to fell one last maple tree before the winter, and maybe dynamite the beaver dam before it washes out the road. (I got a permit to do this.) I wish I could play more
Demon's Souls, but it's the most unforgiving game I've played in a while, maybe ever. I need to find some help from friends online.
I'll be playing the new Pokemon and more
Fairytale Fights. I want to play the Wizard of Oz game for the DS as well, to check out all those cute witch's cats. Finally, I'm looking forward to the
New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which I played with a very gracious Mr. Miyamoto
the other day in midtown Manhattan.
Gus Mastrapa: Honestly, I don't know what game I'm going to play this weekend. I have a pile of stuff that just isn't all that appealing to me. I know I'll be playing more
Brütal Legend -- I'm trying to find all the collectibles in the game. The Legends are bad-ass. I'd pay big bucks for fancy prints of those illustrations. And two songs elude me. I'm afraid they're tucked in the dark, misty corners toward the end of the game.
Otherwise, I'm going to try to get the Zombie Genocidist achievement in
Left 4 Dead before the sequel comes out. That means I have lots of killing to do.
And, William, have fun with
Galaxy Trucker. I've never played a board game that made failing so fun.
Ryan Kuo: It looks to be a dreary weekend, perfect for the two games I'm currently focused on ---
Machinarium arrived the other day so I'm neck-deep in that for review, and the iPhone port of
Beneath a Steel Sky is pretty exquisite too. I'll be playing both when I'm not napping under a blanket.
Kyle Orland: Finishing up
Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics ... because I'm a masochist, apparently. After that, choosing among
Borderlands,
Brütal Legend,
Uncharted 2,
Batman and about a dozen other games that I want to play. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with this time of year...
Troy Goodfellow: I'm playing
Tropico 3 for review. So far, so good.
Evan Narcisse: I have intentions to play many things:
Uncharted 2,
Borderlands or maybe finally
Trials HD. But the grim reality is that I'll probably fall much deeper in what's already an unhealthy
Canabalt addiction. I need to crack my current plateau of 3804m!
James Fudge: I'm going to be murdering NPCs all weekend.
Gus Mastrapa: Never change, James.
Elise Vogel: Yesterday, I had the honor of playing through a bit of
New Super Mario Bros. Wii with Miyamoto himself (I lost), and it has made me want to play the DS version again. I might just buy a Wii.
And I'm still playing
Fallout 3. I don't even want to touch the DLC, yet. I have wandered away from the Brotherhood of Steel to help out back at Vault 101.
